NEW HOUSE, CHARING, KENT
A new house on the site of a former scrapyard in a small hamlet near Charing within the Kent Downs National Landscape, next to Ancient Woodland.
Working with Sarah Wigglesworth Architects and Richardson Architects, LHLA prepared a LVIA and a Landscape and Biodiversity Design. The application was approved.
The design approach was inspired by the chalk grasslands, woodlands and rich biodiversity of the surrounding landscape, and by the local chalk and flint found in the Kent Downs.

We worked with Louise on our self-build residential project in the Kent Downs National Landscape. Given the sensitive location, we recognised from the outset that there would need to be a strong focus on biodiversity enhancements and landscape connectivity, underpinned by Louise’s excellent Landscape and Visual Impact Assessment. Her pragmatic and client-focussed approach ensured that all aspects of our final concept reflected our vision and priorities for the project.
Collaborating seamlessly with our extended team, including ecologists, Louise created a well-balanced and thoughtful design that will positively transform the landscape in the years to come. Her understanding of local regulations and professional expertise were instrumental in navigating the complexities of the planning process and securing full permission. We are looking forward to many happy years in our new home and garden, thanks to Louise's meticulous planning and contributions. We highly recommend Louise to anyone undertaking a similar project.
